Mummified Hand Rework: How the New v0.106.0 Priority System Picks Your Discount

In v0.106.0, Mummified Hand stopped picking the discounted card at random and now follows a four-tier priority. Here is how the new logic works and what it changes in deck building.

Old behavior vs new behavior

Old Mummified Hand: when you played a Power, the next card you played that turn cost 0. The relic's downside was the 0-cost target was a random card in hand — frequently a card that was already 0-cost, or a basic Strike you did not need to discount.

New Mummified Hand uses a four-tier priority. It scans the rest of your hand and picks from the highest tier that has at least one valid card, choosing randomly within that tier.

  • Trigger condition unchanged: play a Power → next card costs 0.
  • Old: target was fully random in hand.
  • New: target is chosen from the highest priority tier that has valid cards.

The four tiers in order

Tier 1: cards costing 1 or more AND with a base cost of 1 or more. These are your "real" priced cards — original mid- to high-cost cards that you actually want to slam for free.

Tier 2: cards costing 1 or more, regardless of base cost. This catches cards whose base cost is 0 but were modified upward (rare, but real — think certain power effects or status modifications).

Tier 3: cards with a base cost of 1 or more that have been modified to 0. These are cards that are already free this turn but were not free by default. Discounting them is technically wasted, but they sit above pure 0-cost noise.

Tier 4: random fallback. Used when every card in hand is base-0 (Strikes, Defends in some specific scenarios, Shivs, summoned tokens). The relic still fires, but the discount lands on whatever is there.

  • Tier 1: cost ≥1 AND base cost ≥1 — your real priced cards.
  • Tier 2: cost ≥1 (any base cost).
  • Tier 3: base ≥1 modified to 0 — already free.
  • Tier 4: random fallback, used when every card is base-0.

What this changes in real decks

The biggest practical shift: Mummified Hand is now reliable in decks with a clear discount target. If you have a 2-cost or 3-cost finisher, a Power chain into Mummified Hand will almost always land the discount on that finisher rather than wasted on a Strike. Decks that play any Power and any expensive payoff card move up several tiers in value.

Conversely, the rework slightly nerfs Shiv-Silent and Claw-Defect decks that wanted Mummified Hand as a "free 0 cost on something" engine. With most of your hand at base 0, the relic just hits tier 4 and behaves like the old random version. Plan for that — if your archetype is base-0-spam, Mummified Hand is no longer a high-value pickup.

  • Reliable now in decks with a clear high-cost finisher + any Power.
  • Pair with: Sealed Throne, Hyperbeam, Sovereign Blade, Stardust, etc.
  • Weaker in Shiv-Silent and Claw-Defect (most cards are base 0).
  • Single-card discount is now controllable, not a coin flip.
