Description
Tired of always reaching for the same character on the select screen? This mod turns the Random character select into a proper character picker. Instead of getting a totally random character every time you click it, you can choose from three different ways to pick, decide which characters are in the pool, and see at a glance what you played last run in each mode.
Installation instructions
1. Download the latest version from the Files tab.
2. Open the ZIP and you'll see a folder called improved_character_select.
3. Drop that whole folder into your Slay the Spire 2 mods folder. By default that's: C:\Program Files x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Slay the Spire 2\mods\
4. Launch the game. The first time you load any mod, Slay the Spire 2 shows a warning prompt, click yes.
5. Open the character-select screen. The Random tile gets auto-selected and a new panel appears in the top-right corner.
Main features
Three ways to pick a character
Random: picks any of your enabled characters at random. Optional toggle to avoid repeating whoever you played last run.
Rotating: cycles through your enabled characters in left-to-right order. You always know who's coming up next. Optional toggle to only advance the cycle when you win, so losses replay the same character.
Random Rotating: shuffles the enabled characters into a hidden order, picks them one at a time, then reshuffles when the list runs out. Optional toggles to only advance on wins, and to avoid repeats (the last character of a cycle won't be the first of the next after re-shuffling).
Pick which characters are in the pool
A row of toggles lets you turn each character on or off.
Settings stick
Whatever you toggle is saved automatically and remembered between sessions.
Requirements
- Slay the Spire 2 version 0.105.1 or later.
- (Optional but recommended) UnifiedSavePath mod. By default, Slay the Spire 2 sends modded runs to a separate save profile from your vanilla one. That means a fresh, locked-down save the first time you launch with mods. Installing UnifiedSavePath (https://www.nexusmods.com/slaythespire2/mods/6) makes the game treat your modded saves and vanilla saves as the same profile, so all your unlocks carry over and your runs all live in one place. Drop its two files into the same mods folder and you're done.
- All five characters unlocked. This isn't a mod requirement, the vanilla Random tile only appears once you've unlocked everyone, and the panel attaches to that tile. If playing without UnifiedSavePath, you'll need to unlock everything again. As a shortcut, you can open the dev console in-game with the backtick key (`) and type: "unlock all" without quotes (this is a base game feature, not a feature of this mod).
Known Quirks
- When you first launch with the mod, the "Last Played" sections on each mode will be empty until you play a run.
