Gauntlet Mode — Alpha

Gauntlet Mode is an optional high-difficulty mode for Slay the Spire 2 focused on endurance, escalating encounters, and preventing powerful late-game builds from steamrolling the final acts.
Instead of simply increasing enemy health and damage, Gauntlet Mode changes the structure of a run. Normal combat nodes can contain multiple consecutive battles, elite nodes begin with an additional normal encounter, and every act ends with two bosses fought in sequence.
The pressure increases as the run progresses. Act 1 gives players time to establish their build, while Acts 2 and 3 introduce more frequent and longer gauntlets. Player damage and Block are also reduced in later acts so completed builds cannot effortlessly erase every additional encounter.
Current features
  • Optional Gauntlet Mode toggle on character selection
  • Available as a Custom Run modifier
  • Supports single-player and multiplayer
  • Normal nodes can contain two or three consecutive combats
  • Gauntlets become increasingly common later in each act
  • Elite nodes contain one normal fight followed by the elite
  • Every act ends with a two-boss gauntlet
  • No intermediate rewards between fights
  • HP and potions carry between encounters
  • Temporary combat effects reset between encounters
Late-game scaling
  • Act 1: 100% player damage and Block
  • Act 2: 80%
  • Act 3: 65%
  • Act 4 and beyond: 55%
Gauntlet rewards
Surviving a gauntlet grants additional compensation:
  • Bonus gold
  • A potion
  • 20% relic chance after a two-fight normal gauntlet
  • 30% relic chance after a three-fight normal gauntlet
  • 25% chance of an additional relic after an elite gauntlet
  • A guaranteed relic from each boss in a boss gauntlet
Alpha notice
This is an early public alpha intended for balance testing and feedback. The core encounter systems are functional, but unusual interactions may occur with modded characters, multiplayer, save loading, or future STS2 updates.
Future versions are planned to add new enemy mechanics, additional difficulty modifiers, expanded configuration options, and further balance adjustments.
Feedback is especially helpful regarding difficulty progression, reward balance, multiplayer stability, and whether the later acts remain challenging without feeling unnecessarily slow.
