Chaos Zero Nightmare - CznEnemySkin

Enemy, elite, and boss appearance replacement for Slay the Spire 2 — Mod v2.0.0-beta

CznEnemySkin replaces the enemies, elites, and bosses of Slay the Spire 2 with monsters from Chaos Zero Nightmare. The fight itself does not change — only what you are fighting.

More than 100 replacements cover nearly 99% of the current Beta combat roster. This includes about 70 normal/summoned enemies, 17 elites, 15 bosses, and one event enemy, using nearly 100 different CZN monster models. Fake Merchant is the only exception.

Compatible with Slay the Spire 2 Beta v0.111.0. The current Major branch is not supported.

This mod does not change enemy health, damage, intents, AI, card rewards, RNG, save data, or balance. It is appearance and audio only.

Content warning: Includes insect-like monsters, parasites, and grotesque/body-horror creature designs. These may be uncomfortable for players with insect-related phobias or sensitivity to disturbing creature imagery.

Main Features

  • Nearly 99% coverage: more than 100 replacements — about 70 normal/summoned enemies, 17 elites, 15 bosses, and one event enemy — using nearly 100 different Chaos Zero Nightmare monster models.
  • Official models and animation: CZN Spine bodies at their official scale, with entrances, stance changes, and multi-phase boss transitions mapped to the matching Slay the Spire 2 action.
  • Official audio and effects: monster voice banks, self-cast CFX, and particles from the source game, kept on the original timing.
  • Correct targeting: selection boxes are rebuilt from each monster's official idle animation, so the target box follows the new model instead of the enemy it replaced.
  • Clean death handling: the official death animation plays, then Slay the Spire 2's own cleanup takes over, so combat end and rewards are untouched.
  • Battlefields and music: official CZN combat backgrounds and music, routed per encounter for bosses and per Act for the normal, weak, and elite pools, plus CZN map music for Laino, Earth, Spaitz, and both Ellinad Theater routes.
  • Author-curated Boss music: 14 optional Boss tracks across 12 encounters. Curated music is the default; unmatched or unavailable tracks fall back to CZN music, then to the original game music.
  • Presentation controls: enable or disable enemy attack effects (default: on), show or hide the original enemy-name subtitle, choose effect brightness (initial/Reset value 100%), and select map/combat and Boss music sources through the shared CZN Mod Config page.

Turning Replacements Off

Every enemy has its own switch in the in-game bestiary. Open an enemy's page and use Replace with ... to turn its Chaos Zero Nightmare appearance on or off. Turn one off and the original Slay the Spire 2 enemy comes back, with no effect on any other replacement.

When a compatible CZN Mod Config host such as CznStyleUI is installed, presentation and music controls appear on its shared in-game settings page. CznStyleUI is optional and is not a required dependency.

What Is Deliberately Left Alone

  • Combat rules, enemy stats, intents, AI, and card rewards are the game's own.
  • The Fake Merchant special-event fight keeps its original monster presentation because it is tied to a custom event scene; it is the only unreplaced combat enemy identity in the current supported Beta roster.
  • Background replacement follows supported Act and encounter routes.
  • Act music is only replaced on eligible routes. Exact Boss music is replaced only for explicitly mapped encounters, with safe fallback when a selected track is unmatched or unavailable.
  • Dedicated Boss battlefield adaptations preserve the native encounter logic.

Compatibility and Safety

  • Game version: compatible with Beta v0.111.0, verified with the maintainer's complete installed Mod set.
  • Character and card mods: compatible by design; player characters, cards, and card art are not touched.
  • CznStyleUI: optional and compatible. When installed, it hosts this mod's shared CZN Mod Config controls; there is no declared dependency.
  • Multiplayer: Multi-target effect routing has been improved; full host/client coverage is not yet confirmed.
  • Linux and Proton: untested. Development and testing are on Windows.
  • Possible conflicts: other mods replacing enemy models, combat backgrounds, or combat music.

Settings and Support

  • Use the in-game bestiary to disable one replacement without affecting the others.
  • When CznStyleUI is installed, use CZN Mod Config > CznEnemySkin for original-name subtitles, the enemy attack-effects toggle (default: on), effect brightness, and map/combat or Boss music sources.
  • Fully restart the game after installing or updating the Mod.
  • Before reporting animation, effect, or audio timing problems, disable combat speed-up Mods.
  • For a broken replacement, include the original Slay the Spire 2 enemy name, Act, screenshot, and relevant log lines when possible.
