BetterSpire2Lite

A lightweight quality-of-life mod pack for Slay the Spire 2. Multiple features bundled into one mod, each individually toggleable from an in-game settings menu. Full multiplayer support with kick, disconnect handling, and difficulty scaling.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Two Versions Available
═══════════════════════════════════════
BetterSpire2 comes in two flavors:
• Full — All features. Marked as affects_gameplay in the mod manifest. All players in a multiplayer session should have it installed.
• Lite — Display-only and cosmetic features. Marked as affects_gameplay: false, so it's safe for multiplayer without requiring all players to install it.
Lite includes: damage counter, multi-hit totals, expected HP, potion drop chance badge, teammate hand viewer with stats, clock, skip splash, mute drawings, and instant fast mode.
Full adds: hold R to restart, double-tap R to reset round, kick players, difficulty scaling, and auto-confirm discard/retain.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Features
═══════════════════════════════════════
▸ Incoming Damage Counter
Displays a number above your character showing exactly how much HP damage you'll take this turn. The calculation accounts for your current block, pet absorption, frost orb passive block (Defect) including Focus and Gold-Plated Cables relic, end-of-turn debuffs (Constrict, Demise, Magic Bomb, Disintegration), and end-of-turn hand card damage (Burn, Decay, Beckon, etc.). Enemies that will die before attacking (e.g. from poison) are automatically excluded. Player regen is factored into the expected HP calculation.
• Red number above your character = HP damage you'll actually take
• Green 0 = you're fully protected (block or pet absorbs everything)
• Orange number above your pet = damage your pet will absorb
Updates in real-time as you play cards and gain block.
Toggle "Show Expected HP" in settings to see your HP after damage. For example, "14 (38)" means you'll take 14 damage and end the turn at 38 HP.
▸ Multi-Hit Damage Totals
Enemy multi-hit attacks now show the total damage in parentheses next to the original label. For example, an attack showing 3x3 will now display 3x3 (9), so you don't have to do the math yourself.
▸ Card Play Count Badge
A small "xN" badge appears above any card in your hand that will play more than once on its next play. Covers every duplication mechanic in the game:
• Echo Form (first N cards this turn)
• Duplicator Potion (next card)
• Burst (next Skill)
• One-Two Punch (next Attack)
• Signal Boost (next Power)
• Throwing Axe relic (first card this combat)
• Replay enchantment from Hidden Gem
Driven by the game's own ModifyCardPlayCount hook, so any future card, relic, or enchant that uses the same mechanic is picked up automatically. Stacking works correctly — a Replay-enchanted card with Echo Form and a Duplicator Potion active will show x4.
The badge also appears in the F3 teammate hand viewer. Toggleable in settings ("Show x2 Badge on Hand Cards"), on by default.
▸ Shop Remove Price Tooltip
Hover over a shop icon on the map and a small tooltip shows the upcoming card-removal cost using the in-game scissors and gold icons (e.g. "✂ - 100 🪙"). The price follows the game's own formula (75g base, +25g per remove used) and updates automatically after you buy a remove and return to the map.
▸ Potion Drop Chance Badge
A small badge next to the map button shows your current chance of receiving a potion after the next combat. Uses the game's own top-bar backdrop and outlined title font so it visually integrates with the rest of the HUD, and updates live whenever the underlying odds change.
Click and drag the badge anywhere on screen to reposition it — the saved position persists between launches. Useful if you run other top-bar overlays (e.g. a game timer mod) and want it out of the way.
Toggleable in settings ("Show Potion Drop Chance"), on by default.
▸ Auto-Confirm Discard/Retain Selection (Full only)
When the game asks you to discard or retain cards, selecting the maximum number of cards automatically confirms the selection without requiring you to click the confirm button. Works with any card count — discard 1, discard 2, retain up to 1, etc.
▸ Instant Fast Mode
Unlocks the game's hidden "Instant" animation speed, which is faster than the built-in Fast Mode. Toggle it in the F1 settings menu. This just changes a game preference — it doesn't modify any game logic.
▸ Hold R to Restart Run (Full only - SINGLEPLAYER ONLY)
Hold the R key for 1.5 seconds to instantly abandon your current run and start a fresh one with the same character, ascension level, and act configuration — but with a new seed. Great for when you know a run is dead and want to jump back in fast.
▸ Double-Tap R to Reset Round (Full only - SINGLEPLAYER ONLY)
Quickly tap R twice to reload the last auto-save and restart the current room. The game auto-saves when you enter each room, so this effectively resets the current combat or event. Preserves your map drawings and enemy positions. Works seamlessly without returning to the main menu — a clean in-place reload.
▸ Skip Splash Screen
Automatically skips the logo/splash animation on game startup. Straight to the main menu.
▸ Teammate Hand Viewer
Press F3 to open a transparent floating panel showing every player's current hand in combat. Each card is displayed as a small thumbnail with the card's name, and hovering over any card shows a full tooltip with the card's description — no guessing what your teammates are holding.
Each player's name line shows hand stats using game icons: total ATK (sword), DEF (shield), Weak, and Vulnerable from their cards. This helps coordinate attacks — if your teammate has a card that applies Vulnerable, you can wait to play your big damage cards until after they play it.
• Resizable — Drag the right edge, bottom edge, or bottom-right corner to resize. A small grip indicator shows in the corner. Cards wrap automatically to fit the panel width. Size is remembered between opens.
• Pagination — If there are more than 4 players, arrow buttons (< >) appear to page through them. You can also use Page Up / Page Down.
• Drag to reposition — Click and drag the panel to move it anywhere on screen. Position is remembered between opens.
• Click outside or press the X button to close.
• Keep Open mode — Enable "Keep Open" in settings to prevent the panel from closing when you click outside (e.g. to play cards). Close with F3 or the X button instead.
• Hide Own Hand — Toggle to only show teammate hands, freeing up screen space.
• Potion Display — Each player's potions are shown as small icons with hover tooltips for name and description. Updates live when potions are gained, used, or discarded.
• Compact View — Toggle "Compact View" in settings to hide card thumbnails and arrange players in a 2x2 grid showing only name, stats, and potions. Minimal screen footprint.
• Persistent Position — The panel's position and size are saved between game sessions. No more repositioning every time you launch.
• Popout Window (multi-monitor) — Enable "Open in Separate Window (drag to another monitor)" in settings to make the hand viewer open as its own real OS-level window that you can drag onto a second monitor. Great for streamers and multi-monitor setups — keep your teammates' hands visible while the main game stays fullscreen on your primary display. The popout's position and size are saved independently from the in-game overlay's, so switching between the two modes preserves both layouts. F3 still toggles it, keyboard input still flows to the game.
Shows your own hand by default, so you can verify the display matches. Requires the "Show Teammate Hand in Combat" setting to be enabled (on by default).
▸ Clock Display
An optional draggable clock that appears in the top-right corner of the screen. Supports 12-hour and 24-hour formats (toggle in settings). Click and drag to reposition — position is saved between sessions. Disabled by default.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Multiplayer Support
═══════════════════════════════════════
All features work in multiplayer. Each player sees their own damage numbers calculated independently based on their own block, pet, and debuffs. The Lite version can be used in multiplayer without all players needing the mod. The Full version should be installed by all players in a session. Versions don't need to match — older versions just have fewer features.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Party Management (F1 → Party)
═══════════════════════════════════════
In multiplayer, the F1 settings menu includes a Party section showing all players by their Steam name and character class. From here you can:
• Hide Drawings — Block another player's map drawings from appearing on your screen. Also clears their existing drawings when toggled.
• Clear All Drawings — Wipe all drawings from the map at once.
• Kick (Host only, Full version) — Remove a player from the session.
Drawing mute is per-person — anyone with the mod can independently choose whose drawings to hide.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Kick & Disconnect Handling (Full only)
═══════════════════════════════════════
When the host kicks a player (or a player loses connection), the game continues without hanging. All synchronizers are patched so that combat turns, map voting, event choices, treasure room relic picks, act transitions, and player choices all resolve automatically for the missing player.
If a kicked player is reinvited and reconnects, their kicked status is automatically cleared — no restart needed.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Difficulty Scaling (Full only)
═══════════════════════════════════════
When a player leaves mid-run, enemy HP, block amounts, and power scaling are automatically adjusted to match the number of remaining players. If you started a 2-player run and someone leaves, enemies scale down to solo difficulty.
This works mid-combat too — existing enemies have their HP rescaled with their current HP ratio preserved (an enemy at 50% HP stays at 50%).
Controlled by a host-only toggle in the F1 menu: "Scale difficulty to active players" (enabled by default). The host can toggle this on or off at any time, even mid-combat, and enemies will rescale immediately.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Settings Menu
═══════════════════════════════════════
Press F1 at any time to open the in-game settings panel. Each feature can be toggled on or off individually. Settings are organized in a two-column layout — left column: Combat HUD and Multiplayer, right column: Gameplay and Shortcuts — with the Party section spanning the bottom. Your preferences are saved automatically and persist between sessions.
The panel is draggable — click and drag to reposition it. Click outside the panel or press the X button to close. Position is remembered between opens.
BetterSpire2 also integrates with ModConfig (https://www.nexusmods.com/slaythespire2/mods/27). If ModConfig is installed, all settings appear in the game's Settings → Mods tab. This is especially useful for mobile/Android players who can't access the F1 overlay. ModConfig is optional — the mod works normally without it.
The Lite version shows a reduced set of toggles (display-only features). The Full version shows all toggles.
═══════════════════════════════════════
Localization
═══════════════════════════════════════
BetterSpire2 ships with full localization support for every language the game supports:
English, 日本語, 中文, 한국어, Deutsch, Français, Español (LA & ES), Italiano, Português (BR), Русский, Polski, ไทย, Türkçe.
By default the mod follows the game's language. You can force a specific language via the "Language" option in the F1 settings menu (or in ModConfig). Missing keys in any language fall back to English automatically, so the UI never shows a blank label.
Translations live in the BetterSpire2_localization/ folder next to the DLL. Native speakers who spot a translation that reads awkwardly are welcome to open an issue or PR on the Nexus page.
