Regent Character Guide: Stars, Forge & Star Burst (v0.111)
Regent guide for Slay the Spire 2 v0.111: how to unlock her, Crown of Stars and no-cap banking, Divine Right openings, Astral Pulse and Seven Stars spenders.
Who The Regent is, and how to unlock her
The Regent is Slay the Spire 2’s third selectable character — the second brand-new character to be added after Necrobinder. She is not unlocked from the start: completing one run with the Silent unlocks her.
Her combat identity rests on two signature mechanics: a Stars resource, and Forge — the system that builds up her Sovereign Blade across a fight. Her starting relic, Crown of Stars, grants 3 Stars at the start of each combat, giving every Regent run a small opening reserve to build on.
Strengths and weaknesses at a glance
Regent is a high-skill, high-reward pick. Once mastered she is genuinely strong, her cards carry real combo potential, and she leans on Retain and card generation to assemble her big turns — the toolkit she needs to convert a saved resource into a winning sequence.
The weaknesses are the other side of the same coin: her draw can stall, and her resource management is fiddly because she tracks two resources on top of Energy. Both problems hit hardest in Act 1, before the engine has enough parts to smooth itself out.
- Strengths: powerful once mastered, real synergy potential, Retain and card generation as the backbone.
- Weaknesses: inconsistent draw, and bookkeeping-heavy sequencing that punishes sloppy turns.
The Star line: banking, income and spenders
The v0.111 guides frame the Star half of the character around banking: Stars are stored with no cap, then spent in concentrated turns. Divine Right openings are the described way to start that bank, and three income cards anchor the math — Venerate, Solar Strike and Genesis.
On the spending side the guides name Astral Pulse and Seven Stars as the main outlets, plus the Alignment conversion, which the source material describes as a conversion mechanic in the v0.111 build. Exact star costs, Forge amounts and conversion ratios are not covered in our source material, so they are marked 待确认 (to be confirmed) below.
The Forge line: Sovereign Blade and The Smith
Forge is the long-horizon half of the kit: Forge effects push progress into Sovereign Blade, and the payoff lands late in the fight. Because of that backloaded curve, the guides treat Forge as a commitment — “The Smith Forge commitment” in their wording — with The Smith as the representative Forge card to build around.
Two planning topics follow from that commitment. “Boss dump windows” name the turns where accumulated Forge value is meant to convert into damage, and relic priority decides which relics a Forge run should route toward. The concrete numbers behind both topics are outside our material (待确认 below).
The core rule: Star and Forge decks never mix
The most emphatic rule in the v0.111 material is the one the source guides headline: Star and Forge decks must never mix. Both lines want the same deck slots, but they scale on different clocks — one banks for a single burst turn, the other grinds value across the whole fight — and a deck that tries both usually ends up committed to neither.
The build guides sharpen this into the No-Forge Rule for Star decks: Forge cards, with The Smith named as the prime example, break the banking plan and drag the deck back onto the Forge line. In the source wording, Forge cards like The Smith are exactly why a Star Burst deck has to stay Forge-free.
- Star and Forge decks must never mix — the first rule stated by the v0.111 source guides.
- No-Forge Rule: Star Burst decks exclude Forge cards entirely.
- The Smith is called out as the Forge card that most easily breaks a Star deck.
- Commit early: the guides describe both lines as commitments, not flex options.
The Star Burst engine (v0.111)
Star Burst is the v0.111 archetype built around the Star half: bank Stars with no cap, feed the bank with the income trio (Venerate, Solar Strike, Genesis), spend through Astral Pulse, Seven Stars and Alignment, and close fights with the Void Form endgame.
The build guides tune it act by act: “act by act burst windows” tell you when each act wants the dump, and the same writeups cover the relics and enemy counters that matter to the build. We kept the structure here and left the per-act thresholds to the source guides, since the numbers sit outside our material (待确认 below).
Version notes and further reading
This page is written from v0.111-era material — Early Access v0.111 is a beta-branch patch, so treat every line above as a v0.111 snapshot. Before taking it into a main-branch run, check the branch label and re-read the cards in game; values and unlock behaviour can differ between branches.
For the current balance-pass numbers — including the v0.111 changes to Regent cards such as Alignment, Spoils of Battle, Refine Blade and Guiding Star, and to the Regalite relic — read our v0.111.0 Beta Strategy Guide, linked below. Newer players should pair this page with the Regent beginner guide, and players weighing the character’s current meta position can read the Regent tier-rise guide.
