Lose-HP / Self-Damage Archetype: The Current Top Tier

Why Rupture, Bloodletting, and Offering form the strongest scaling engine in Slay the Spire 2 right now, and how to draft and pilot the deck without killing yourself.

Why Lose-HP is top tier now

Unlike the original game, "lose HP" is not a janky meme in Slay the Spire 2 — it is one of the strongest scaling engines available. With Rupture in your deck, every Lose-HP effect grants Strength, turning Bloodletting and Offering into pure scaling and energy machines.

A single upgraded Rupture combined with two HP-cost cards generates more Strength than most non-Power scaling routes, and the cards involved are also some of the best raw effects in the game on their own.

  • Rupture turns every Lose-HP into a Strength gain.
  • Bloodletting + Offering doubles as scaling and energy ramp.
  • All three component cards are independently strong.

Draft order and key support

You only need one Rupture for the engine to work, and a second is usually wasted. Prioritize Rupture if it ever shows up, then take 1-2 Bloodletting and 1-2 Offering. Past that, the deck wants front-loaded damage that scales with Strength: Heavy Blade, Iron Wave, Whirlwind.

Support pieces that matter: any card draw to find Rupture earlier, Body Slam to convert excess Block into damage, and removals to thin out duds so your engine comes online by Act 2.

  • Take Rupture immediately, ignore second copies.
  • Aim for 1-2 Bloodletting and 1-2 Offering.
  • Add Strength-scaling damage: Heavy Blade, Iron Wave, Whirlwind.
  • Body Slam converts Block surplus into damage spikes.

How not to kill yourself

The deck loses to its own engine if you Bloodletting at low HP. Track HP as a budget: any time you are below 50%, the next Lose-HP card has to be paying for an obvious win, not a speculative scaling stack.

Keep one healing source in mind for Act 3: Burning Blood end-of-combat heals are usually enough on Ironclad if you avoid greedy double-Bloodletting turns at low HP. Against Doormaker specifically, never start his fight under 60% HP.
