The Broker

by jonkoiv0.1.4

The Broker arrives with 198 gold, double what every other character starts with, and a philosophy: pay to deal damage, make enemies pay to recoup it, invest the proceeds into sellswords and mercenaries. If gold can buy it, buy it.

Main features

New playable character for Slay the Spire 2:

  • 65 HP, 198 starting gold, 3 energy
  • 104 cards, 22 custom powers, 3 relics
  • Full co-op support (including a card that only appears in multiplayer)
  • Fully animated character

Three ways to play

The Shakedown (Extortion build)
Stack enemies with the Extortion debuff. They pay you Gold every time they take a hit. Shakedown, Blackmail, Hostile Takeover, and Class Action Lawsuit apply it. Racketeer's Rhythm turns new Extortion stacks into bonus damage this turn. Bankruptcy converts stored Extortion into permanent Strength loss. Your enemies finance their own defeat.

Private Army (Mercenary build)
Hire cards (Archers, Ambusher, Phalanx, Blockade, Demolitionist, Twins, Captain, and more) drop Mercenary tokens straight into your hand. Barracks grants them Retain so they stick around turn after turn. Hire Captain upgrades fresh tokens. Private Army and Black Market Connections roll random Mercenaries into the deck. Let your payroll do the fighting.

Sellsword Payroll (Discount build)
Stack Sellsword Endorsement and the premium cards (Sellsword Strike, Sellsword Defend, Sellsword Vanguard, Sellsword Veteran, Escort Detail) get cheaper per stack. The more Sellsword cards you run, the more the discount pays off. Expensive hits for pennies on the gold piece.

Most cards synergize across styles. Pay-on-death bounties (Bounty Hunter, Bounty Poster, Head Hunter), Debt manipulation (Loan Shark, Foreclosure, Debt Collector), insurance-fund safety nets (Insurance Fraud, Life Insurance Policy, Rainy Day Fund), and persistent Runic equipment round out the deck.
